This is A Garden Among the Flames, a newsletter for the purpose of “ghost reading” for and on behalf of you.
Let’s be real. None of us have as much time or energy as we would like to read the books, peruse the studies, listen to the podcasts, and watch the high-quality films and documentaries (ie. not Marvel) that we want or ought to. I have started this publication to be a ‘ghost-reader’ for and on behalf of you. What does that mean? A ‘ghost-writer’ is someone behind the scenes who writes all the hits you hear on the radio—the artists you know rarely write their own lyrics.
Instead of writing for you, I want to read for you.
My goals are twofold: 1) to provide you with the best summaries, gists, excerpts, actionable information, and insights from the extensive reading I regularly undertake, and 2) to inspire and provide resources, titles, links, etc. for you so that when moved upon by the spirit of intellectual quest, you will have some ideas of where to start. The sheer quantity of available media out there can make it hard to know where to start.
My reading and media consumption is eclectic, but mainly focuses on the areas of history, theology, literature, poetry, psychology, cognitive and behavioral science, health and nutrition, general well-being, financial markets and economics, global geopolitical events, India and the Middle East, languages, probability and risk, and cosmology.
Posts will appear in various forms, ranging from focus pieces on intriguing subjects (have you ever heard of dream incubation?), to book reviews, to smatterings of insights from the week. I am also open to requests.
If you agree that it is better to know a little bit about some things than nothing about anything, subscribe (:
